2005 Birdathon Report
We Found 92 Species!
April 9 - Thanks to the help of Cpt. Flip Harrington, Cathy English, Laurie Odlum, Bob and Marta Gordon and Soo Whiting we had a good Bird-a-thon. We came up with a total of 92 species! I consider that a great list.
Our best birding spots were the flats in the early morning and a subsistence farm out on Rt.714. The highlights were a nice mini fallout of warblers at Peck Lake and Rocky Point Hammock and Bobwhite, Red-tailed Hawks, Grasshopper and Savannah Sparrows out west. We missed several species we got last year - Chimney Swift and Wood Duck seen the on the 10th for example.

2006 Birdathon Report
We had 6 teams with 11 observers who found 103 species in the most successful Birdathon since we began this event 6 years ago.
Certain highlights are: the Cape May Warbler in Sailfish Point, Magnificent Frigatebirds roosting on bird island and Snail Kites found in NENA. The day started out very quiet with winds calm and fog in the western areas. It was noted that the Red-shouldered Hawks that were observed seemed to be more blonde this year and that owls were strangely absent. We "missed" some "normal/expected" sightings of Monk Parrot, Bard Owl, American Kestrel and Northern Harrier. Every year we find more species as more volunteers participate and we learn better methods of searching. Thanks to all who searched and to those who donated their gasoline and time for this annual fundraising event.
A special thanks to those who pledged money per species. Please forward your checks based on the multiplier of your pledge per species times the 103 we found. Thanks.
